About Me

I am a literacy specialist at an elementary school in Massachusetts, as well as a former first grade teacher. As a literacy specialist, I teach learners who are striving to become proficient readers and writers. I also serve as a support for teachers, offering suggestions and resources to improve learning for all of our students. In addition, I am a teacher consultant for Buzzards Bay Writing Project. In this role, I have provided professional development for local school districts to support teachers in their teaching of writing. I have also presented professional development workshops related to the teaching of literacy in my district and at professional educator conferences. Currently, I serve on the Board of the Massachusetts Reading Association. I am President-elect and Chair of our 2021 Conference, Unleash the Power of Literacy.

I hold an M.Ed. in Reading from Bridgewater State University and an Ed.D. in Education from Northeastern University. In addition to my teaching certifications, I also have an administrator certification. I also hold a Sheltered English Immersion endorsement in the state of Massachusetts.

I started this blog because I have a passion for teaching literacy and enjoy collaborating, sharing, and networking with other educators and literacy professionals. I continuously strive to increase my knowledge and enhance my practice. I do this in a variety of ways, but I believe reflection and collaboration are essential elements for improving teaching and learning.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, both fiction and nonfiction, anything from children's literature to grown-up books to books related to my professional practice. I almost always have a book I am in the middle of reading. I spend a lot of time trying to stay fit and healthy including running, cycling, and tennis. The beach is one of my favorite places; it’s perfect for reading, running, or just relaxing. Although here in Massachusetts, there is only a short time to enjoy sunny, warm days on the beach, I am lucky to live just minutes from the ocean.
