Every Monday, I share books I have recently read. I also participate in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, a community of bloggers who link up to share what they are reading. Abuela's Library by Lissette Norman and illustrated by Jayri Gómez
Every Saturday, Alfonso and Abuela visit the library and then read under their favorite tree outside their building. One day a worker comes to cut down the tree because it is sick and will knock down the power lines if it falls. Alfonso, who misses the tree, has an idea to turn the tree stump that is left behind into something the entire community can enjoy.
A Big Day for Bike by Emily Jenkins and G. Brian Karas
Bike is nervous about her first day on the job, but another bike offers words of encouragement. Many bike riders rent her and she has a successful day helping others get around the city. This is a sweet story that celebrates the joys of bike riding and new adventures.
Flamingos Are Pretty Funky: A (Not So) Serious Guide by Abi Cushman
This nonfiction picture book about flamingos has some fascinating information. Speech bubbles throughout the book, and the illustrations, add some humor. I love nonfiction books like this one because kids can learn facts while also being entertained.
Felix Powell, Boy Dog by Erin Entrada Kelly
Felix, who can talk to his dog, magically turns into one. Being a dog is certainly interesting, but Felix begins to worry about what his Nan will do when she discovers he is missing. He has his own dog and a cat named Gumbo to live through the adventure with him. This is an imaginative chapter book with illustrations for beginning readers.
All of these look so charming! Especially hoping to find the Erin Entrada Kelly on my next library trip.
