Hello, Sun by Julie Downing

Simple rhyming verse and gorgeous illustrations show what happens out in the natural world, starting with sunrise until the moon comes out. A lovely book.

One Day This Tree Will Fall by Leslie Barnard Booth and illustrated by Stephanie Fizer Coleman

This is a wonderful book about a tree that survives despite obstacles. This book shows the life cycle of a tree and also explains the importance of trees even when they have aged and fallen. Lyrical and informative.

The Spice Box By Meera Sriram and illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat

A spice box has been passed from one generation to the next in Rishi's family and he is eager for his chance to use it. A heart-warming story about family and tradition.

Adult Reading Recommendation

Funny Story by Emily Henry

Daphne's fiancé has broken up with her after deciding he wants to pursue a relationship with the best friend he has known since childhood. Since she has no place to live and the ex of this childhood friend has a spare room, she moves in with him. Even though they seem to have little in common with each other (except for the break-ups) and don't interact much, she accidentally tells her ex that they are dating. What was simply a convenient and temporary living arrangement becomes more complicated. Like a few other books by Emily Henry, this was a quick and enjoyable read.

  1. I keep seeing people recommending 'Funny Story', Lisa. Thanks for your recommendation, too, plus the others look very nice. Have a great week ahead!

  2. Funny Story has definitely been on my radar - everyone seems to be loving this one at the moment.

Just based on the cover alone, I think I'd love the illustrations in Hello, Sun. Such beautiful color!!

  3. Oh, I'm excited to read Hello, Sun - my son adores Julia Donaldson, and those illustrations look stunning.

  4. Thanks so much for the heads up about One Day This Tree Will Fall. I've got my name on the list for one of the first copies that arrive in the library.

  5. Love these picks, Lisa! Funny Story is one people keep enjoying—the premise alone is definitely delightful! One Day This Tree Will Fall sounds so beautiful too—I feel like some of the more profound moments in my week come from pausing on walks to stare at enormous trees, and I'll be frank, I don't think it dawned on me that trees that big will, someday, die and return into the ecoystem. That's wild. Thanks so much for the wonderful reviews, and enjoy your week!

  6. Leslie Barnard Booth has done a couple of story times at the bookstore where I work and people just rave about her skills.

  7. I may have to pick up Funny Story. I read one of Emily Henry's novels a couple of years ago and was meh on it, but I've wanted to try another, and the plot of Funny Story sounds really engaging.
